Vancouver Japanese Language School
487 Alexander Street
Also known as バンクーバー日本語学校, the Vancouver Japanese Language School and Japanese Hall was founded in 1906 and is the oldest Japanese Language School in Canada. The current building was built in 1928 to expand and become a community centre, and it remains a powerful symbol of community strength and resilience. The building was named a National Historic in 2019, alongside sites like Stanley Park, Lions Gate Bridge and Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Steveston. Ray-Cam Co-operative Centre is a neighbourhood facility and community hub on East Hastings St and Campbell Avenue. They provide family support services and offer out-of-school, preschool, and daycare programs for children, as well as a fitness centre, gym, drop-in lounge, games room, media lab, and multipurpose rooms. They provide a welcoming, family-oriented, safe space, with recreation and programming for people of all income levels, including youth, seniors, new immigrants, and indigenous residents. The Strathcona Community Centre provides a place where the community can meet, share thoughts, explore new and different avenues of recreation, socialize and become involved. The centre is a place which can be drawn upon by all groups and persons for information, ideas and resources. Its doors are always open to all those wishing to use it. Some of their programs include breakfast and food security programs for children, childcare programs, and a diverse suite of youth, family, and senior’s programming that focuses on arts, culture, and recreation. The nə́c̓aʔmat ct Strathcona Public Library opened in 2017 and has been a wonderful addition to our community. It is the first civic building in Vancouver with an Indigenous name. nə́c̓aʔmat ct Strathcona encompasses the idea of ‘we are one’ in the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (Musqueam) language. The library is open 11am-6pm Tuesday through Saturdays. In addition to their book collection the library has a a computer lab, creation space, meeting rooms. For more information visit their webpage.

Strathcona Community Policing Centre
872 East Hastings Street
The Strathcona CPC delivers crime prevention and safety programs plus a wide range of services to the residents, businesses, and agencies throughout the Strathcona catchment area. These programs and services are delivered through the efforts of trained volunteers and supported by CPC staff. The CPC provides ongoing volunteer training opportunities in partnership with the VPD and other service providers. They also provide volunteer foot and bike patrols in the business district of Strathcona, and plan and promote several community clean-up days in the district. The Strathcona Residents Association is a volunteer-run neighbourhood group who advocate on behalf of local residents on a number of social, environmental, and economic issues.
